This week over 25 Sixth Formers met with Mrs Hammond to register their interest in Community Service.
The Volunteering Programme sees BGS Sixth Formers organise and take up a variety of placements within the community. The range is diverse; some students stay within the BGS community and help our Infant and Kindergarten pupils with guided reading, whilst others volunteer in museums, care homes, charity shops and animal shelters.
Year 13 student Sanjush Dalmia began volunteering in order “to give back and help those who need it”, and will this year be continuing with two volunteering roles, one at Oxfam and a second at Abbeydale Care Home. Sanjush, an aspiring medic, spoke about the challenges of working with individuals suffering with Dementia, but also how he had enjoyed meeting families and learning about the lives the residents lived before they came to Abbeydale.
Asked about his experience Sanjush said that he has found “community service to be very rewarding” and that he “would recommend it to anyone in Sixth Form”.
