BGS hosts North West regional heat of Junior 'Schools Challenge'

The North West regional heat of Junior 'Schools Challenge', for Year 7s and 8s, was held at BGS on Tuesday 12th March.

Sixteen teams from nine schools across the region took part in this annual competition, which has now been running for over 30 years.

For the first time, BGS fielded joint boys/girls teams and the event also marked Mr Hone's 25th anniversary as Northwest Regional Organiser.

The tournament started with mini-leagues of four teams each, with the winners of each group going into the semi-finals.

Our B and C teams faced strong competition in their groups and despite playing well, did not progress.

The A team was drawn in a group with traditional rivals Bolton School Boys Division.

BGS A defeated Bolton and its other two rivals and by winning all three games went forward to the Regional semi-final in style.

Here, despite a spirited display, they lost to a team from AKS Lytham.

Lytham were then beaten in the Regional final by Lancaster Royal Grammar School, who go on to the national stages of the competition in the summer.
