BGS joins in the celebrations for 25 Years of the Ramsbottom Festival

On Saturday, Bolton Road Methodist Church came alive to the sound of music as the whole community united for a Gala Concert to celebrate 25 Years of the Ramsbottom Music Festival.

Miss Rachel Britton, Head of Music at Bury Grammar School Girls, joined in the celebrations and accompanied many of the musical pieces. The concert was dedicated to Peter Fielding who worked at BGSG for many years as a musical accompanist at the School and at the Founders' Day Services.

Rachel was joined at the Gala by BGSG Year 13 student Lucy Jackson, who also featured on the promotional posters and the programme. Lucy performed a beautiful rendition of ‘Thais 'Meditation' on the 'cello.

BGSG Old Girl Maddie McArdle played the viola in the concert, returning from the Birmingham Conservatoire where she is studying with Robin Ireland, Head of Chamber Music.

The Mayor of Bury also attended the Gala and all proceeds were donated to Bury Hospice.

Rachel said, “It was both a very moving and yet joyful celebration, which celebrated Peter’s life with many happy memories of Festivals gone by. The music was exquisite and Lucy and Maddie performed a superb solo.”
