Girls' Biology Club begin investigation into hatching chicken eggs

The Biology Club, who meet every Wednesday lunch time, have just started a new investigation, they are monitoring and hatching chicken eggs.

An incubator has been purchased and on Wednesday 18th April the 6 fertile eggs were weighed and placed in the incubator set at the correct moisture level.

Each week the mass of the eggs will be checked and the technique of candling used to check the development of the chick.

All being well, they should hatch on Tuesday 8th May (after being carefully monitored over the Bank Holiday weekend).

The hatched chicks will then be transferred to a brooder pen with new food and water containers.

Just before half term they will be ready to go to their new home at a local farm.
