Girls' Sports Report - 08/03/2019

Well done to the Year 9 netball team who finished as runners-up in the U14 Greater Manchester County Tournament at Wright Robinson College on Saturday.

In the group section, BGS got off to a flying start winning all of their matches, beating Cheadle Hulme School (13-4) Loreto Grammar School (13-4), Saddleworth School (12-8), Withington Girls School (10-9) and Cardinal Langley (17-0).

This meant BGS went through to the semi-finals, where they faced Bolton School, in a strong position as group winners.

In the first half, BGS were confidently in the lead 7 -4 up. However, in the second half, Bolton School came back with a strong challenge, but BGS girls held their nerve with a determined performance and came out on top with a well-deserved win to take them into the Greater Manchester County Final.

In the final they came up against Blue Coats School. It was a close encounter in the first half with both schools going goal to goal.

But in the second half, Bluecoats School managed to get the better of BGS and pull away to clinch a victory.

This meant that BGS came runners-up in the Greater Manchester County and is a fantastic and well-deserved achievement for a totally dedicated, committed and talented group of girls.

Well done to the BGS team of: Katie P, Beth W, Sienna N, Emily B, Lucy J, Toria O and captain Eleanor L.
