Girls' Sports Report - Week Ending 15/06/2018

Congratulations to the Year 9 rounders team who won the Annual Rounders Rally on Tuesday night at Philips High School.

After a nervous start, the girls gained confidence to take their opportunities when batting and improved the accuracy of their fielding.

A close win in the semi-final against Woodhey meant they faced Philips High in the final.

Losing to this talented team in the round games, the girls knew they had to focus their efforts if they were in with a chance to take victory.

Some excellent fielding by Tilly, Lottie and bowling by Connie meant the opposition found it increasingly difficult to score.

When batting, knowing what they had to do, the team remained calm and stepped up to the mark.

As the final ball was bowled BGS came out on top winning by four rounders.

Congratulations to all girls involved, a great team effort.

The team included:

Lottie
Chloe
Harriet
Connie
Kaya
Rebecca
Matilda
Iman
Olivia
Lauren

On Tuesday, the Under 11 rounders team travelled to Lytham St Anne's to compete in the annual AJIS rounders tournament.

The girls breezed through the first games scoring a total of 18 rounders in three games meaning BGS were through to the second round.

A tightly fought game against Queens School, Chester again saw BGSG win by one rounder to put BGSG into the semi-final against the host School, AKS.

AKS had a strong batting side and BGS were defeated meaning BGSG played the Grange School in third place play off.

Again, another closely fought game with outstanding fielding skills from our girls resulting in BGSG winning the game, finishing 3rd out of 16 AJIS Schools.

An excellent day of rounders, the girls improved their knowledge and skills in every game and fun was had by all!

A huge thank you to all parents who came to support too.

Rounders fixtures were played against Philips High School on Wednesday.

Year 8 won 12 & 1/2 to 1 & 1/12, Year 9 lost 3 & 1/2 to 4 and Year 10 won 6 & 1/2 to 4.

Congratulations to BGS girls Lauren and Emma who won swimming medals at the recent North West Summer Regional swimming competition.

On the last weekend of the regional competition held in Manchester on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May, Lauren had great success in her 14-year-old age group category, winning the gold medal in the 200m backstroke event, and two silver medals in both the 100m and 50m backstroke events.

Lauren achieved new personal best times in all three events, which have secured her three event entries at the English National Summer Meet to be held in Sheffield at the beginning of August.

Her recent success has also resulted in Lauren being selected to attend her first International swim meet, to be held in Stuttgart, Germany on 23rd and 24th June.

Emma won the silver medal in her 13-year-old age group category in the 50m freestyle event, achieving a personal-best time for herself, and also securing herself a place at the English National Summer Meet to be held in August in that event.

Well done, girls!
