Head of BGS Boys' Junior School Update - 08/12/2017

Dear Parents

You know Dasher and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid, Donner and Blitzen, but children at BGS know the most famous reindeer of all; Snowflake! Well he certainly is to them now, as Snowflake made a starring appearance at our incredible Winter Wonderland on Thursday. Pupils from our Pre-School, Infants and lower Juniors were afforded the opportunity to not only meet Snowflake but also Santa himself! ‘Every day is a school day’ and I was amazed to find out that Snowflake eats around 250 carrots per day and loses his antlers every November (how very careless!). The children loved the whole magical experience and I was delighted to welcome new friends of BGS to our community. Huge congratulations to the boys’ choir who performed incredibly well.

The boys have done very well this week in keeping a curb on their excitement for the festive period as they sat their ongoing assessments; staff have already marked them, calculated grades and are in the process of finalising the Interim Reports that will be with you at the end of next week. Please do remember that if there is anything that you would like to discuss about your son’s progress, then the reports are out in time for you to be able to contact teachers in school; we are always happy to chat about the boys!

Preparations are well underway for our Christmas Concert, ‘Time Travellers Guide to Christmas’. Please be as supportive as possible in terms of any costumes required. We do, of course try to provide costumes for boys but sometimes need a little help from your wardrobes! Any support with the boys learning their lines is always appreciated also. A reminder that the concert is on Monday 18th December at 6.45pm. The Joint Concert that you received a letter about that is held the day after, is purely an invitation from our Senior Schools. The Junior Choir will be in The Rock food area from 12.30pm - 1pm on Monday 18 December. Family are very welcome to support.

I was delighted to attend the Senior Schools production of Little Shop of Horrors last night. The show was once again, an incredible bonanza of fabulous music, singing and acting; huge congratulations to all staff and pupils involved. It was magnificent to see some of the ex-Junior School boys beginning to shine in Senior School dramatic productions.

There have been lots of other events that have been going on in Junior School this week, including Times Tables heroes, chocolates in shoes (?), AJIS swimming gold medals, Flash Fiction (!) and decorating trees – please don’t forget to have a look in our further news section for more details and lots of photos.

Have a relaxing weekend.
