Head of BGS Boys' Junior School Update - 19/01/2018

Dear Parents

You should have received a letter today regarding healthy eating at school. This has been a constant push since I arrived at BGSB and I know that the boys do make far more healthier choices when in the dining hall. However, I would really appreciate your support when it comes to break time snacks. It is an expectation that boys do not have crisps as a snack. There are so many alternatives that are available and I urge you to think of the fat, salt and sugar contents of potential snacks. Please support us in ensuring that the boys receive the best possible nutrition throughout the school day. A reminder that, due to some boys’ severe nut allergies, no nut-based products are to be brought into school.

We were treated to an excellent Assembly from Year 5 Jade this morning and I was delighted to see so many parents for both coffee and the assembly itself. The confidence of our boys never ceases to amaze me and I was thrilled at the performances they gave. Mr Minta will let us know more in his assembly report next week. Speaking of coffee, you are warmly invited to attend the latest Parent Forum on Tuesday 6th February at 8.45am in the Junior School Library. Doors open at 8.20am for drinks and I am looking forward to welcoming in our parent body to discuss ongoing Junior School related issues. This is wholly a positive forum where I envisage the school and parents cementing a true partnership where progress can be made on many fronts. If you have not already replied via the letter that was sent out, one is attached to the newsletter or you may write in your son’s diary to confirm attendance as well as highlighting potential agenda items that you may wish to discuss.

I have met with form teachers during this week with regard to ensuring the continued academic progress of all pupils within the Junior School. This is not something I would normally report on in a newsletter but I wanted to let you know how thoroughly impressed I was by how well each and every staff member knows your sons, both academically and from a pastoral nature. The clear and concise targets and level of intervention that staff continue to put in place to ensure that every opportunity for progress is made, is truly fantastic. Your sons are in great hands.

In my assembly on Monday and during form time this week, your sons have been discussing their role models. They provided some really insightful answers on who role models should be and why? It may prove to be an interesting discussion around the dinner table tonight… Please don’t forget to have a look at our further news section for more stories and pictures about the life of the Junior School this week!

Have a wonderful weekend.
