Head of BGS Boys' Junior School Update - 24/11/2017

Dear Parents

In a week that has seen the hugely popular book fair in school, I was delighted to make four boys richer in assembly this morning. Across each year group, staff chose a boy who has been working particularly hard with his reading and writing over the past few weeks and they each received a £5 book voucher to spend. I don’t think I have ever seen boys smile so widely!

The book fair has been hugely successful and I would like to thank parents for allowing your sons to purchase reading materials that will support their learning journey, as well as the school library through the commission that is raised by sales that goes directly into the purchasing of more stock. My thanks to Mrs Murphy and the staff for a well-organised and exciting book fair.

There has been a surge of pupils over the past ten days arriving at my office for Head Teacher Awards. Staff have also reported a clear increase in the effort levels of the boys in class and at home whilst completing home learning. It has been a delight to see so many boys for their effort and exceptional work and I would like to congratulate the boys for this outstanding increase in their work ethic and pride.

As we quickly approach that most wonderful time of the year, I would like to remind parents of some important dates. The boys are busily preparing for the Christmas Concert which will be held in the Senior School Hall at 6.45pm on Monday 18th December. I very much look forward to welcoming you all to a nostalgic look through Christmases past, present and future – it almost calls for some sort of time traveller?

The final day of term is Wednesday 20th December and this will also be the day when boys are entertained by our visiting pantomime in school. We return to school in the New Year on Monday 8th January, 2018.

Next week is our assessment week in school where we will be measuring the progress and attainment levels of the boys. These will be reported to you in the form of the Interim Report which will be issued on Friday 15th December. I trust that you will find this report an accurate update on your son’s education, with a clear focus on English and Maths.

Once again, the week has been extremely busy and I would ask you click into the further news section to read more on what’s been happening in the Junior School.

Have a wonderful weekend.
