Head of BGS Boys' Junior School update - 20/04/2018

Dear Parents

Welcome back to the Summer Term; I hope you enjoyed a well-deserved rest over the Easter break. In my assembly on Monday, I recited the well-known children’s classic, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. The boys loved recalling the story and joining in with all of the action words. However, the aim of the assembly was to highlight the fact that we face many obstacles in life and there are no short cuts for reaching a destination. We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it, Oh no! We’ll have to go through it!’ Even though the book doesn’t say it, I added the extra line... ’and there’s no turning back!’ Staying on the right path and negotiating difficulties along the way is what helps us grow and develop, providing us with the grit and determination required to succeed. I am positive that the boys are given these opportunities here at BGSB and rise to the challenge every time.

Over the Easter break, boys and girls from BGS visited Holland on a sports and cultural tour. Although I was unable to attend the residential on this occasion, I was ‘chief tweeter’ and thoroughly enjoyed receiving photographs and videos of the children having such a fabulous time whilst gaining new experiences. The reports back from the trip clearly showed that the children were fantastic ambassadors for BGS; congratulations to all who attended and my sincere thanks to the staff who took such good care of them. A full report and further pictures can be found in our further news section.

And finally, the boys should have brought home and returned their clubs form for the Summer Term this week. Once again, there are a multitude of clubs catering for many different tastes and I am sure you will agree that the offering made by the staff is excellent. Boys should also have passed the Year Group Summer Forecast to you, highlighting the main areas of study for the term. I trust you will find this a useful guide. A reminder to parents that Form school photographs will be taken on 24th April. Please ensure boys are looking as smart as they usually do!

Have an enjoyable weekend.
