Howlett win the Senior Boys' House Music Competition 2019

Howlett win the Senior Boys' House Music Competition 2019

On Wednesday afternoon, 52 boys representing all four houses competed in grand final of this year’s House Music Competition in the hope of being crowned Junior Young Musician and Senior Musician of the year.

The competition started back in December with the House Christmas sing-off where Derby house took the lead with Hulme trailing in fourth place.

After the individual junior and senior preliminary rounds where each entry received a point for their House, the competition gained momentum with Howlett taking an early lead with the most first round entries. Derby slipped to second with Kay and Hulme remaining in 3rd and 4th respectively.

The best Junior and Senior performers then progressed through to the final in the categories of woodwind, brass, percussion, strings, piano, voice and composition where they were adjudicated by Mr Alex Webb, freelance professional musician and conductor. In summing up the afternoon’s entertainment, he remarked on the high standard and variety of performances presented by BGSB students and said the competitors should all be very proud. He was also impressed by the supportive atmosphere and camaraderie shown by all competitors involved.

To conclude the day’s competition, the musicians were given the results of each class and the Junior and Senior Young Musicians were crowned. Special thanks go to Miss Britton for her expert piano accompaniment throughout the day.
