Pupils and parents attended the 2,000-seater prestigious musical venue for the annual event which included a variety of speeches, musical performances and the awarding of the prizes to girls from Year 7 to the Upper Sixth leavers from the Class of 2017.
The evening began with the arrival of the platform party before a beautiful rendition of the national anthem by the School Orchestra, followed by an outstanding performance of ‘English Folk Songs Suite’ by Vaughan Williams.
Chair of Governors Mrs Gillian Winter then provided her remarks, before Mrs Jo Anderson’s Headmistress’s Report, including pupil reports from each year group on academic, sport, music and CCF topics.
Head Girl Charlotte Marshall and Deputy Head Girl Georgia Willetts also gave excellent speeches.
The audience were then treated to the sound of the Festival Choir, who performed ‘The Rose’ by McBroom and ‘Fields of Gold’ by Sting.
The distribution of prizes followed an inspiring address from former Head Girl Dr Francesca Moore, a string performance featuring a solo from Lucy Jackson and moving renditions of ‘The World in Union – Skarbek’ and ‘Like an Eagle – Strommen’ by years 7, 8 and 9.
The evening concluded, following BGS tradition, with the whole audience singing the School Song – Sanctas clavis fores aperit.
“Prize Giving was again both inspirational and hugely enjoyable,” said Headmistress and Principal Mrs Jo Anderson. “It is a wonderful opportunity to review the past year with parents and pupils, experience some wonderful music and celebrate all of our incredible successes.”
