Sport

Over the last fortnight, BGS has hosted the Bury Schools' U11 five-a-side competition and the girls' six-a-side competition at Buckley Wells.

Over the three nights of action, more than 32 schools and 300 boys and girls took part, with Holcombe Brook coming out on top in both the boys and girls events.

The events were also used as a development opportunity for our young leaders with Ben, Joseph, Louis and Ethan from Year 9 acting as referees - many thanks to the boys and Mr Andrews for organising the refereeing opportunities.

The five-a-side competition has taken place for over twenty years now having originally been run by ex-Junior School Deputy Head Mike Byrne.

Other Events

Year 5 Trip to the Museum of Science and Industry

To support our Humanities and Science topics, the boys had a fantastic day at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI). The boys saw and heard first-hand what life would have been like in a Victorian factory and learned all about how the industrial revolution helped to shape our modern world. They then had time exploring the experiment gallery where all our Science work over the year was brought to life by a wide range of interactive displays. The boys excelled in our workshops, asking probing questions and proving just how much they have learnt over the year.

Disco Fever!

The lights were up, the paper chains had been hung, the origami swans had been made, all leading the way to the Junior Boys’ Hall: the Year 6 Leavers' Disco had begun. Dancing through the night and being polite towards our guests from the Girls’ School, this night will definitely be remembered by all!

Languages Club

It has been a busy week for languages club. In our final meet of the year we had an international sports session, where the boys split into England and Germany teams to face each other in an extremely competitive basketball match. Following that and inspired by England’s penalty shootout success, we relived the moment by scoring baskets as England and Colombia… sadly England weren’t victorious!

Also this week, some of the boys prepared and presented an assembly about why you should learn a foreign language to years 3 and 4, which we hope will encourage them to join us next year.
