Fire Safety Trip

This week, the Year 6 Junior Boys ventured out to the Greater Manchester Fire Safety and Training Centre.

There they took part in a number of activities: racing to get into fire resistant gear, completing quizzes, learning drill procedures, walking around a dark maze - completing a fire safety check, they even learnt about the importance of the recovery position and CPR.

Mirror Magic

This week Year 3 have been learning about how mirrors make words appear to be written backwards and have been using their knowledge of reflection and mirrors to complete secret mirror messages. They have also learned how to bend a pencil in water, can you guess how they did it?

Well done to Sammy and Benji Sutcliffe who ran the Kapow Superhero Challenge 5k at Heaton Park on Sunday in aid of JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity.

Sammy finished first in his wave and Benji did awesome too, particularly enjoying the foam obstacle!

Practical Maths

In Year 5 this week we have been working on the mathematical life skills of understanding time and measurement. Using and applying our skills, we took measurements in the classroom and converted them from centimetres into millimetres and metres. The boys worked hard and understand the importance of using their maths skills in the real world.

Cross Country

Last week, the boys and girls cross country squads travelled to Rossall for the AJIS cross country championships. This elite event features a demanding course combining grass, hills, sand dunes and even strong coastal winds!

With 116 boys running across the North West junior schools, the Bury boys entered a terrific effort with three finishing in the top fifty. Oliver was the first runner in, finishing in a highly creditable 29th position, with Ciaran close behind in 32nd. Sam then coming home in 46th completed our best finish to the race for three years. Make no mistake, this is a tough, demanding course which tests the boys to their limits.

Well done to Sammy and Benji Sutcliffe who ran the Kapow Superhero Challenge 5k at Heaton Park on Sunday in aid of JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity.
