Year 13 pupils Anna and Rachel were presented with the 2019 Dorothy Lester Travel Scholarship on Friday.
In an assembly on the last day before study leave begins, Anna and Rachel each received £200 towards their expedition to “the gateway of the Fjords” - Bergen, Norway. The girls, who are both avid geographers, have planned this trip themselves and will be travelling independently of any over-arching organisation.
They will have the opportunity to do the usual sightseeing in this historical city, canoe on the world-renowned fjords and take 12 hour-long treks.
They will undertake the Trolltunga hike which is well known for its difficulty. At the top of the hike is a unique rock feature which is a beautiful spot for photographs.
They feel that this is an opportunity to develop their organisational skills and to build confidence and assertiveness. The experience will also help to prepare them for independent living at university.
This award is also acknowledged at Prize Giving.
