Fundraising

Fundraising is an important part of school-life at Bury Grammar School for our pupils, students, staff and and wider community and we are always overwhelmed by the support we receive.

We have a real commitment to fundraising and volunteering through our extensive community service programme and support the local and wider community each year, making a real impact on the community around us.

This year, Bury Grammar School is excited to partner with the charity Village by Village to raise funds to build a Junior High School in Parko Junction, Ghana!

bgs Chosen Charities

Local Charities
Locally, as we have done for some years now, we continue to support Bury Hospice as a local charity through our Heartbeat Bury Event. We also continue to support Porch Boxes through our Christmas Reverse Advent collection.

National Charities

Nationally, Young Lives vs Cancer is supported through our non-uniform days and a bike collection event in December to support Cyclists Fighting Cancer. We also participate in Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children too, (though this was not one of our official nominated charities!).

International Charities

Internationally, we continue to donate shoes to the Sal's Shoes appeal, and pupils have also chosen to support the World Wildlife Fund. Money for this is raised by staff donations over extended break times with cake. plus a Primary Division Charity Bunny Hop/Speed Bounce event!

Our aspiration is to develop the scope of the meaningful social impact and charitable outcomes that our fundraising at BGS can do. This includes assemblies in all sections of the School led by both our Charity Council Representatives and led by the charities themselves. The Charity Council will engage further with local charities through visits to support the work that they do and to speak to people who benefit from the many services offered.

The role of a Form Charity Representative

Form Charity Representatives are nominated and elected each year, and this group forms a smaller Charity Council who select six charities to support for the academic year. The role of the Charity Council provides an opportunity for our most altruistic pupils to represent and lead their peers in charitable giving.

Every year, Charity Representatives from each form are invited to nominate the charities that they think should be considered and the reasons for their choices. This information is then collated and sent out to pupils to vote. The results of this vote decides the charities supported. Pupils are encouraged to nominate smaller charities for whom the support that we could provide would have great impact.

We support two local, two national and two international charities. One of each will be supported financially and the other will be supported through non-fiscal donations.
