Bury Grammar Schools

English Faculty

When students study English, they do not simply study words: they study people, places, times, ideas, opinions and values. They learn to think critically about the ways in which language not only has the power to inspire those around them, but the power to influence them.
At Bury Grammar School, we foster a love of English well beyond the classroom. Lessons are truly interactive and inspirational, allowing pupils to explore and engage with some of the greatest stories ever told and to become independent, enquiring readers. We seek to enable our pupils to truly take command of language and use it to open the doors to their futures. Pupils leave us confident communicators with a critical understanding of the words and the world around them, and an appreciation for the power of literature.
