People commonly refer to Germany as “Das Land der Dichter und Denker” (the land of poets and thinkers).
The German-speaking population has profoundly contributed to Literature and the Arts. As the most widely spoken language in the European Union, German is the native language of approximately 100 million people. German lessons at BGS enable students to discover and enjoy the official language of Germany, but also of Austria and Liechtenstein, and one of the official languages of Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Mr Boyd completed his Bachelor’s Degree in French and German at the University of Bradford before departing to Germany, where he spent a year translating for DaimlerBenz in Stuttgart.
He travelled extensively in Western Europe as a sales manager.
He completed his PGCE in 2004 at Manchester Metropolitan University and came to BGSB in 2006 where he was promoted to Head of French in 2008 and Head of MFL in 2016.
He is now Head of German for BGS and assists with the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Bronze and Gold levels.
