Junior Curriculum
A Knowledge Rich Curriculum
At BGS in Juniors, every pupil experiences a broad academic, creative, and cultural education while also preparing them for life after school in higher education and work.
We seek to foster a love of learning and ambition in achievement which, in an ever-changing world, encourages pupils to question, debate, analyse and make informed judgements.
As an all-through independent school, we have the freedom to adapt and enrich the curriculum for the benefit of our pupils: this allows us to provide a broad and balanced education bursting with ambition, which goes beyond what other schools might be able to offer and gives your child the edge.
We provide a broad range of experiences and opportunities to encourage creativity and inquisitive thought delivered by a staff team which is expert in providing individual care and encouragement to all our pupils. Pupils are encouraged to learn independently, work to their potential with plenty of opportunities for Greater Depth.
We recognise that all children are individuals and have different talents and strengths: our highly experienced teachers are keen to adapt their teaching to suit.
Our modern approach to pastoral care and individualised learning ensures that our staff know and understand your child and, by working with you in a close home-school partnership which we value immensely, our teamwork means pupils are nurtured and encouraged to aim high and achieve the best possible outcomes.
At BGS, traditions are also immensely important to us, thanks to our long and successful history, dating back to 1570. We are both very proud of our traditions and extremely happy to be a modern school, keen to embrace new technologies and innovative teaching methods.
Sport
Sport at Bury Grammar School embodies the core aims of participation, performance, enjoyment, health and partnerships. Competing at a local, AJIS and National Level.
Bury Grammar School has a long-standing reputation for sporting endeavour and prowess and strives to provide excellent sporting opportunities for all pupils in whatever sphere and at whatever level. We offer a diverse and inclusive programme of activities in which every pupil participates, through our curriculum and extensive enrichment programme.
All our pupils are encouraged to try their hand at a range of sports and physical activities, whatever their level of ability. We believe that physical health and well-being play a crucial role in the educational journey of young people, developing leadership, teamwork work, communication skills and self-discipline.
''The broad curriculum including Science, Geography, Thinking Skills, as well as the core subjects, means a nice balance between learning and enjoyment.''
