Bury Grammar Schools

Food

Bury Grammar School boasts a modern, spacious and well-equipped Food room. In our Food lessons, we aim to instil a love of cooking which will open a door to one of the great expressions of human creativity.

The focus of this subject is to develop practical food preparation skills to ensure pupils develop an understanding of nutrition, food provenance and the working characteristics of ingredients. At Key Stage 3 boys and girls are taught to feed themselves and others affordably and well, now and in later life.

Subject Curriculum

Key Stage 3

In KS3 pupils will make a wide variety of dishes to help them to develop a range of food preparation and cooking techniques and will learn the principles of food hygiene and safety. We include classics such as apple crumble and victoria sandwich along with contemporary favourites like potato wedges and cous cous with roast vegetables.
