Infant School Admissions

Did you know, children who join Bury Grammar School in our Infant and Junior School are not required to sit the 11+ entrance examination for entry into the Senior School?

From their very first days at Bury Grammar School we get to know each child and encourage them to develop their individual strengths. We nurture a strong sense of being valued both as an individual and as a member of our community.

Assessment for a place in Reception is in the form of an informal observation carried out by our highly trained and friendly staff, usually our Kindergarten Manager. Our aim is to ensure that Bury Grammar School is the right environment for your child to flourish. 

For places in Year 1 and Year 2, children are invited to sit admissions assessments in English and Mathematics and to meet with our Primary Principal, Mrs Howard.  Parents will also be invited to meet with Mrs Howard to discuss their aspirations for their child.  As part of the admissions process we also ask the Head of the pupils’ current school for a reference. 

While there is no formal deadline for the submission of applications, we strongly advise parents to apply earlier rather than later, given the demand for places. And, once the informal observation has taken place, offers are sent out swiftly thereafter - which means you can then have peace of mind about your child's future.

Once integrated into School, it is the norm for our Infant pupils to make rapid progress and find their learning fun!
