Academic results are high but it is also important to us that we provide a broad curriculum and there are many opportunities for the children to begin to explore the wider world around them.
Junior classes regularly enrich their learning experiences by travelling to exciting places of interest. Pupils enjoy visiting local museums, air-raid shelters, zoos and sea-life centres, as well as travelling further afield to places of educational significance such as Chester and Jodrell Bank. Whether handling genuine historical artefacts, locating a river source or viewing and understanding portraits in galleries, leaving the classroom provides the no-substitute approach to understanding the world around them. We also welcome authors, theatre groups and other educational visitors into school to help enhance the curriculum and to provide opportunities for pupils to develop the key skills of listening and questioning.
Our residential trips that run from Years 4 to 6 also provide an ideal way for children to experience their environment first hand, learning about the world as well as themselves. Whether being challenged physically to achieve a goal they never believed they were capable of, or working as part of a team, the prevalence of invaluable life-lessons and enrichment, are clear.
One of the many strengths of our Junior Schools is our enrichment programme. The range of opportunities in music, the arts and sport is excellent. All pupils participate in our hugely successful clubs programme that runs before and after school, as well as at lunchtimes. Around 25 inclusive clubs are in place to offer pupils breadth of opportunity, as well as the chance to develop their passions, further individual talents, or perhaps to discover a new area of interest.
In addition, most pupils also represent the school in a variety of sports, both in competitions and within our inter-house tournaments. Our incredible school choirs have won local and regional singing competitions.
Whether it be singing or soccer, cross-country or coding, origami or orchestra, there are activities on offer to whet the appetite of all boys and girls at Bury Grammar School.
