Combined Cadet Force

Bury Grammar School's Combined Cadet ForceHere at Bury Grammar School we take immense pride in our Combined Cadet Force (CCF), a remarkable program that stands as the largest voluntary CCF in the country and boasts a rich legacy as one of the oldest. Our CCF program unites an Army Section affiliated with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and an RAF Section, providing students and pupils with unparalleled opportunities for growth and development.

Dedicated Team

Our CCF program is led by a dedicated team of CCF Officers and instructors, comprising School-employed staff, teachers who also serve as Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and volunteers who generously contribute their time as CFAVs (Cadet Force Adult Volunteers) to support our cadets. This collaborative effort ensures that our cadets receive the best possible guidance and mentorship.

Unlocking Opportunities

The CCF offers a wealth of new and exciting opportunities including CCF field days, camps, flying experiences, First Aid training, and the chance to get to know a wide range of people from across school, and work together to take on new opportunities. Through teamwork, cadets develop essential life skills that will serve them well and will help them to achieve success in life and in the workplace regardless of whether they pursue a military career.
"Participating in the CCF in Senior School is a really positive experience for me, both in school and outside of school. It's not just about learning military skills; it's about building resilience, teamwork, and leadership. I've made some brilliant friends and have learned so many new skills that have given me so much more confidence."

Leadership and Life Skills

Participation in military-themed activities equips CCF members with invaluable leadership skills, a strong sense of responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness, endurance, and discipline.  Training is exciting and challenging; it places great emphasis on self-reliance and responsibility. It is safe, and importantly lots of fun! Senior cadets are encouraged to motivate, mentor and train junior members, fostering leadership development and an opportunity for promotion.

Lifelong Benefits

The CCF offers leadership opportunities and skills like no other area of school life. Pupils can volunteer to join the CCF from Year 9 onwards, making it a long-term commitment that extends throughout their time at Bury Grammar School.

Personal Growth

At its core, the CCF is designed to provide young people with opportunities for personal development outside of the classroom. It is a disciplined, uniformed organisation for young people based in lots of schools across the country, there are approximately 60,000 cadets in the CCF today. Bury Grammar School proudly hosts approximately 250 cadets and adults who are actively engaged in the CCF.
