Bury Grammar School offers an incredible assortment of school trips each year.
The list below includes the major, upcoming trips. Further trips may become available throughout the year and additional, department trips and visits are run regularly throughout the year.
Upcoming Trip Information
Athens, Greece – October 2026, Years 12 & 13
From standing in the shadow of the Acropolis to exploring the ancient sanctuary of Delphi, this unforgettable experience offers pupils the chance to engage with the history, mythology, and culture of Ancient Greece. Alongside exploring the foundations of Western civilisation, students will also experience the vibrant atmosphere and modern culture of Greece today.
The trip includes:
- 4 nights' half-board accommodation
- Entry to historical sites and museums
- Visits to the Acropolis, Parthenon, Ancient Agora and Kerameikos
- A day trip to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon
- A day trip to Delphi and the site of the Delphic Oracle
- One piece of checked luggage per person.
Plas Y Brenin, Snowdonia – October 2026, Year 8
Pupils will have the opportunity to develop their confidence, teamwork and resilience through an exciting outdoor adventure at the renowned Plas Y Brenin Outdoor Activity Centre. Set within the spectacular surroundings of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, the residential offers a wide range of instructor-led activities.
The trip includes:
- 2 nights' full-board residential accommodation at Plas Y Brenin
- A programme of exciting outdoor activities, including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, indoor and outdoor climbing, raft building and a mountain walk
- Expert instruction and supervision from qualified outdoor activity instructors
- All specialist equipment and safety kit.
Madrid, Spain – October 2026, Years 10 & 11
Designed to support GCSE Spanish studies, the trip provides pupils with the chance to practise their language skills, experience authentic Spanish culture, and bring their classroom learning to life through a range of cultural visits and activities.
The trip includes:
- Bed and breakfast accommodation in a Spanish hotel
- A full-day excursion to Toledo, including a guided tour of the historic city
- Guided visit to Las Ventas Bullring and Museum
- Visit to the Reina Sofia Museum
- Visit to the Prado Museum
- Self-guided visit to the Royal Palace
- Visit to Retiro Park
- Visit to El Rastro Flea Market
- Visit to El Parque de Atracciones theme park.
Sports Residential, UAE – February 2027, Years 10 & 11
Pupils will have the opportunity to combine competitive sport with an unforgettable international experience during this exciting sports residential in Dubai.
Representing the School in football and netball fixtures, pupils will compete against local teams while developing their sporting skills, teamwork, and confidence in a unique overseas setting. Alongside the sporting programme, students will have the chance to experience the culture, attractions, and vibrant atmosphere of one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
From exciting fixtures on the pitch and court to exploring the sights and experiences Dubai has to offer, this trip provides the perfect balance of sporting challenge, cultural discovery, and lasting memories.

Ghana – February 2027, Years 10, 11 & 12
As special guests at the official opening ceremony of a new Junior High School, pupils will experience first-hand the impact of a community development project delivered in partnership with Village by Village, while learning about local culture, education and the lives of communities in rural Ghana.
The trip includes:
- 10-day expedition programme
- Accommodation and meals throughout the trip
- Attendance at the official opening ceremony of the new Junior High School
- Visits to community projects and local sites.
New York – February 2027, Year 13
Year 13 students will have the opportunity to explore New York while visiting landmarks and cultural attractions that support the study of A Level English Language and English Literature. Through a combination of world-class museums, iconic sites and live theatre, the trip offers an engaging way to deepen understanding of key examination topics beyond the classroom.
The trip includes:
- Bed and breakfast accommodation in a hotel in Manhattan
- Entry to a Broadway show
- Admission to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, including an audio-guided tour
- Visits to the Museum of the City of New York
- Entry to the Empire State Building
- Admission to The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Milan, Italy – March 2027, Year 6
Pupils will have the opportunity to experience an unforgettable football tour to Milan, combining professional training, competitive matches and the chance to explore one of the world’s most famous footballing cities. Open to all Year 6 pupils, regardless of previous football experience, the trip will provide an exciting introduction to the game.
The trip includes:
- Football training at Inter Milan’s official training ground
- Friendly matches against local teams
- A tour of the iconic San Siro Stadium and Inter HQ
- Tickets to a live Serie A match at the San Siro
- Opportunities to experience the culture and atmosphere of Milan.
Italy – April 2027, Years 9 & 10
Pupils will have the opportunity to explore the dramatic landscapes, history and culture of southern Italy through an exciting Geography field expedition. Based in Sorrento, the trip brings GCSE Geography topics to life through visits to volcanic landscapes, ancient sites and unique local experiences.
The trip includes:
- Half-board accommodation in Sorrento
- Visits to Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, Naples and Capri
- Exploration of the Pertosa Limestone Caves
- Visits to local food producers, including mozzarella and gelato experiences
- Authentic pizza-making workshop
- Entrance fees, expert guides and dedicated tour support.
Ski Trip – April 2027, Years 10, 11, 12 & 13
Pupils will have the opportunity to experience a ski adventure at Jay Peak Resort in Vermont, USA. Combining expert ski instruction, exciting activities and time to explore a world-class resort.
The trip includes:
- 5 nights’ half-board accommodation at Hotel Jay, followed by 1 night in Boston
- 5 days of ski instruction with qualified instructors
- Lift passes and ski equipment hire, including helmets
- Evening entertainment, including the Pump House Water Park and indoor climbing
World Challenge, Albania – July 2027, Years 9 & 10
Pupils will have the opportunity to take part in a life-changing expedition to Albania, exploring a stunning and less-travelled part of Europe. Working with World Challenge, pupils will travel beyond the usual tourist routes, experiencing local culture, challenging themselves through adventure and developing valuable skills for life.
The trip includes:
- 10-night expedition to Albania
- Expert support and guidance from World Challenge
- Opportunities to explore remote and culturally significant areas
- Adventure activities and challenges designed to develop teamwork and independence

Battlefields (tbc) – October 2027, Years 9, 10 & 11
Pupils will have the opportunity to explore the key sites and landscapes of the First World War, gaining a deeper understanding of the events, experiences and sacrifices that shaped modern history. Through expert guidance and visits to significant battlefields, museums and memorials, the trip brings classroom learning to life.
The trip includes:

- Accommodation at Messines Peace Village and full-board meals
- Entry to museums and places of interest
- Organised evening entertainment.
