The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
We take great pride in our pupils' active participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Award scheme available to all BGS pupils from the beginning of Year 9.
Starting at the Bronze level and advancing towards the prestigious Gold level in the Sixth Form, our students have the chance to accrue credit and recognition for their endeavors beyond the classroom.
The benefits of participating in the DofE Awards are endless!
These awards carry global recognition, a testament to their value. In today's competitive landscape, universities and employers are looking for more than just impressive grades and extra-curricular activities; so, incorporating your DofE involvement on your UCAS application, for example, can tell an institution that you are not only academically accomplished but also ambitious, have a positive attitude, as well as a wide range of interests. There are many benefits from having a DofE Award on your CV, particularly regarding employability, as this can help set you apart as a standout candidate..
"The Gold DofE journey transformed my outlook on what was possible. It challenged me, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and allowed me to develop leadership, resilience, and teamwork skills that I'm sure will serve me well in my academic studies and my future."
Gold Award Student
At Bury Grammar School, we offer the DofE Award at all three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold allowing students to continue to develop a range of skills and qualities and progress through all three levels if they wish.
While many of our students aim to complete all three levels, we understand that some may prefer to focus on one or two levels to suit their personal goals and commitments.
