Bury Grammar School Academic Enrichment
We are passionate about learning and creating a community of life-long learners.

Our extensive academic enrichment programme provides a wide range of opportunities for students to engage with, instilling a thirst for knowledge in them that remains beyond their time here.

Scholarship, one of our school aims, is at the centre of academic enrichment, developing our pupils’ intellectual curiosity, independent learning skills and critical thinking to enable them to achieve success in the future.

Academic Enrichment at BGS is extensive. There is a range of subject-specific clubs and societies which aims to stimulate and extend students with a particular subject passion as well as those that are less subject-driven and more focused on broadening interests and knowledge. Our enrichment provision is inclusive in nature and we encourage all students to take part in activities and societies which they might find interesting.

There is something for everyone including the Roger Kay Lectures delivered by visiting speakers, competitions such as Young Enterprise, Sir Rhys Davies Mock Trial and CREST, debates and public speaking to name just some.  In addition, the Higher Project Qualification (available in Year 10) and Extended Project Qualification (available in the Sixth Form) provides students with the opportunity to research their own area of academic interest and to write it up as a research project with the help of a supervisor and a series of focused research skills lessons.
