The Boys' Senior School

Welcome to Bury Grammar Boys' Senior School!

Boys, parents and teachers are immensely proud of the Boys’ Senior School. Our positive and invigorating atmosphere allows every individual to thrive and develop his talents to the full.

Our education is characterised by values of high expectations, rich opportunity and a commitment to expecting the best. Key to our success is the partnership between home and school and the warm and friendly school community in which our boys are raised. There is a collective pride in our boys’ achievements and in the talents of each individual.  The caring and happy environment within our Boys’ Senior School, combined with a positive approach to discipline, ensures high standards in the classroom and on the sports field and enjoyment of a wide variety of enrichment activities.

While our top priority will always be to inspire boys in their learning and develop academic potential fully, we celebrate all our pupils’ strengths, wherever they may lie: the diversity of our community is something we cherish. Opportunities in music, drama, sport and many other areas abound and are given prominence because we believe that, through involvement in a wide range of enrichment activities, the individual develops fully.

Class sizes are small, with about 24 boys in each class in the Key Stage 3 years (7 - 9) and fewer at GCSE. At GCSE all boys study English, Mathematics, three separate Sciences and a Modern Foreign Language and additionally they opt from a wide range of other subjects with most boys studying nine GCSEs.

Boys leave BGS as articulate, confident and well-rounded young men, ready to meet the opportunities and challenges of higher education and their future careers.

This is genuinely an uplifting, hard-working and positive environment in which boys flourish and develop into confident, polite and well-educated young men. We look forward to welcoming you into the school of which we are all very proud to see for yourself just what a Bury Grammar Boys' education is like.

Kind regards
