Junior School Admissions

''My child loves BGS Juniors! Since he has started he has developed a real love of learning and can't wait to go to school each morning!''

Year 3 Parent

Did you know, children who join Bury Grammar School in our Infant and Junior School are not required to sit the 11+ entrance examination for entry into the Senior School?

We welcome applications at any point of the year for all stages of our Primary Division.

We would love to show you around our exciting school and extensive facilities where we offer our pupils the best possible start, and potential to succeed.

All applicants will be asked to sit English and Mathematics assessments to ensure that they will fit in with our cohort and the pace of learning in our Junior School.  We are aware that we will have applicants from many different backgrounds and schooling experiences and with this in mind we always look for potential, a desire to learn, an interest in the world around them and a questioning nature.  As part of the admissions process we also ask the Head of the pupils’ current school for a reference.

Applicants will also be invited to meet with Mrs Howard, Primary Principal to talk about their learning experience so far, hobbies and interests.

We also love meeting and talking to parents interested in our School.  We are proud of our strong home-school partnership and recognise the importance and benefit of this relationship to our pupils.  During the admissions process parents will be invited to meet our Primary Principal, to talk about their child and what is important to them, discuss our ethos and our desire to ensure that our philosophy will be supported by parents.

Our Junior School pupils, provided they are making progress as expected (and usually they do much better than expected!) do not have to sit the 11+ entrance assessment for Senior School.  This truly makes us an all though school.  We have confidence that the high level of inspirational teaching in our Primary Division more than prepares pupils for their transition to Senior School.

If you would like to arrange a visit to our Primary Division or require any further information please contact our Admissions Team on 0161 696 8600 or register your interest by filling out the Enquiry Form here.

If you would like to arrange an assessment for entry to Junior School assessment for your child, please complete the application form and we will contact you to book a convenient time.
