A Level Results 2025

Record-breaking A Level and EPQ Results for Bury Grammar Sixth Form Students
We are incredibly proud to announce that Bury Grammar School’s #Classof2025 have achieved some absolutely stunning individual grades today. This is one of the strongest sets of A Level and EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) results in the School in a decade outside of the Covid era.
Our students’ results are resoundingly well deserved and reflect their hard work, talent and determination and their teachers’ exceptional subject knowledge and care.
Many congratulations to all!
Top grades and smashed expectations
Results are stunning! More than four in ten grades are at A*-A and over three quarters are at the ‘gold’ standard of A*-B.
Five students have obtained straight A*s, eighteen students have all A*-As and, quite remarkably, almost half of the year group have all A*-B grades.
For the 9th year running, BGS sixth formers are enjoying a 100% pass rate.
Celebrations are underway for the many BGS students who have smashed expectations.
The number of A* grades is several times higher than predicted and the number of A*-A grades is double the forecast.
We offer the students and their teachers huge congratulations on magnificent efforts and stellar achievements.
All-round approach leads to academic excellence and a fulfilling Sixth Form experience
These grades point to a trend of an ever-strengthening Sixth Form. It is one in which academic excellence goes hand-in-hand with numerous extra-curricular accolades as well as strong inter-personal skills.
Time spent on music, sport, drama, debating, volunteering, mentoring, pupil leadership, the super-curricular programme and work experience very much seems to have enhanced academic performance and without doubt has made our sixth formers much sought after by universities and employers alike.

Student leaders who excel and bring excellence to others
More than half of the grades achieved by our 47 prefects are at A*-A and over 80% are at A*-B. Leadership opportunities have been the icing on the cake of a vibrant Sixth Form experience and we thank our prefects for being brilliant role models for younger pupils.
Brilliance was achieved by the entire School Captain team, who all obtained straight A*/A grades - our tradition of leadership and excellence for our School Captains is certainly alive and well! These roles carry significant responsibilities and privileges within our school community and this top team of five have applied their commitment, incredible work ethic and impressive decision making skills to all aspects of their life here at Sixth Form and are proof of just what can be achieved – 21 A*/A grades between them!
Role of excellent teaching
Our student-teacher combination is a winning one! We are thrilled that the immense time and care devoted by teachers to helping students one-to-one has paid off.
Students do not outperform predictions without excellent teaching.
And teachers’ presence at results day in the numbers we have seen today is testimony to incredibly strong teacher-student partnerships.
These grades could not be more well-earned by students and teachers alike.
Strong employability skills and exciting next steps
A world of opportunities awaits our sixth formers.
Outstanding results in the EPQ go to those students who can think for themselves and work independently – qualities which are much desired by universities and open so many doors to rewarding careers. This year’s tally of 94% A*/A is truly impressive and the projects students have completed have led to discussions at interview in which they have been able to perform with confidence.
Indeed, competitive interview processes for university places and apprenticeships have not daunted this year’s students at all as the range of experiences in Sixth Form – from speaking in assemblies, to debating, to acting as school ambassadors – has left them well placed for such challenges.

Destinations and next steps
It has been a great year! The vast majority of students have secured a place at their chosen university, with destinations spanning 545 miles – from the University of St Andrews to the University of Plymouth. These include top Russell Group universities, competitive apprenticeships, and specialist institutions in the arts, sciences, and technology. Durham University, along with Russell Group universities in the North East and North West, remain especially popular choices for BGS students.
Students are now preparing to move on to a wide range of courses including Economics, Politics, Journalism, Philosophy, Law, Television and Radio Production, Dentistry, Acting, Marketing, Aviation Management, Engineering, Marine Biology, Sociology and Criminology, Spanish and History, Mathematics, Accounting and Finance, Medicine, Combined Social Sciences, Computer Science and Mathematics, English Language and Linguistics, Psychology, Fashion Marketing, Geography, Languages and International Relations.

Principal, Mrs Anderson, praised the students, saying:
"We are incredibly proud of our sixth formers, the people they have become and their exceptional achievements. Their A-Level results are not just numbers — they represent years of hard work, personal growth, high aspirations, expectations exceeded and fabulous future possibilities. It is no coincidence that volunteering, enrichment, super-curricular and work experience opportunities have gone hand in hand with academic excellence. It’s been really quite emotional to talk to students today who are stunned at what they’ve achieved and the doors which have opened for them. We are so thrilled for them! After spending their formative teenage years at Bury Grammar School, we are so sad to see our A-Level students leave, but happy to know they are moving on as such confident, well-rounded and engaging young people. Thank you to our teachers for all your care, one-to-one support and expert teaching and a big thank you also to our parents for the brilliant partnership we’ve had over the years. Many congratulations to the Class of 2025 and all the very best for the future from all of us at BGS!"
Head of Sixth Form, Miss Sherriff, added:
"It has been a privilege to work with such a motivated and engaged cohort. Their success is richly deserved and I am looking forward to hearing about their future endeavors in the years to come at our alumni events. I would also like to acknowledge the tireless support of our staff, who continue to go above and beyond to guide and encourage each student throughout their time in the Sixth Form."

We congratulate all our students on their achievements and wish them the absolute best in their futures. The Class of 2025 has truly set a high standard and we couldn’t be prouder.
