Band of the Grenadier Guards returns to BGS

We were delighted to welcome the Band of the Grenadier Guards back to Bury Grammar School (BGS) for an unforgettable day of music, learning and inspiration.

Pupils from across the School had the privilege of meeting and working with members of one of the British Army’s most distinguished military bands.

For our young musicians, the visit offered an exceptional opportunity to rehearse alongside professional musicians, develop their skills, and experience the discipline, teamwork and energy of a military band firsthand.  Across the day, our pupils took part in band rehearsals with members of the Grenadier Guards, gaining practical guidance and encouragement from musicians at the very highest level.

One highlight of the day was the opportunity for younger pupils to experience the sound, spectacle and precision of the Band of the Grenadier Guards.  BGS Infants enjoyed their own special session, while BGS Primary pupils and pupils from two visiting primary schools also joined us for an exciting performance, making the day a memorable occasion for children across BGS and the local community.

Jessica, Year 10 told us:

"There were so many favourite bits that it's hard to choose one. The band were amazing and so encouraging throughout the day. Their advice was really helpful, and the experience has made me want to be a professional musician."

The visit also featured a Corps of Drums workshop, adding another memorable dimension to the programme and allowing pupils to see the skill, coordination and tradition behind this distinctive part of military music.  The day culminated in an evening concert for more than 160 guests, including the Mayor of Bury and the Lord Lieutenant, featuring the Band alongside BGS pupils and showcasing the outstanding musicianship, enthusiasm and talent on display throughout the visit.

“We were so proud to welcome the Band of the Grenadier Guards back to BGS for the second time in as many years for such a memorable and inspiring occasion.  Days like today are very special indeed.  It gave pupils the chance to experience outstanding live music, learn from professionals and perform alongside them, while also allowing us to share this wonderful opportunity with local primary schools and our school community.  It has been a tremendous celebration of music, community and aspiration!”

Thank you to the Band of the Grenadier Guards! They gave us their time so generously and provided our pupils with such an inspiring experience.
