Bury Grammar A Level and EPQ students strike gold
A stellar year
Bury Grammar sixth formers have struck gold, gaining a total of 98 A* and A grades between them in their A Levels and EPQs (Extended project Qualifications).
Well over 90% of grades are at A*-C and 70% are at the ‘gold standard’ of A*-B which gives access to the very top university courses and apprenticeships.

Outstanding individual achievements
There are some truly exceptional achievements.
One student has five A* grades, another has five A*-A grades and six students have four A*-A grades.
Fifteen students have three or more A*-A grades.
Forty BGS students have three or more A*-B grades.
Excellence across the board
Excellence was seen right across the year group and across every academic department.
The majority of the year group (60% of students) gained at least one grade A, reaching a standard which anyone who has ever sat A Levels will know takes a great deal to achieve.
In all areas of the curriculum, BGS students were more likely than not to achieve an A Level grade at the ‘gold standard’: in the sciences – Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics; in languages - English Literature, French, German and Spanish; in the humanities – Geography, History and Politics; in social sciences – Business, Economics and Psychology; in Art and in Maths. In Further Maths, 100% grades were at A*-B.
Expectations eclipsed
In what has become a Bury Grammar trend, students significantly exceeded nationally determined targets based on their ‘innate’ ability, showing that hard work and excellent teaching can lead to incredible outcomes.
There are an astonishing 70 more A*-A grades than ‘predicted’.
For some students, it was a total eclipse as they exceeded their targets in every subject.
The gold standard paves the way to bright futures Our students’ hard-earned success has paved the way to bright futures.
BGS students are now on their way to studying a whole range of fabulous course, including Medicine and Healthcare, Business Management, Finance, Fashion Design, Law, Psychology, Computing, Aerospace Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
A significant number of our sixth formers will be progressing to Russell Group universities and, while they have overwhelmingly chosen to study in the North of England (Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle being real favourites) a number have secured places at other prestigious UK universities, including Cambridge, Imperial College London, UCL and King's College London.

Anyone who has taken A Level exams will remember how nervous you get before results day and just how difficult it is to reach the highest grades. So today it has been an absolute joy to see students do even better than they thought they could.
There is no glass ceiling here. Sights are aimed high. Excellent teaching and supportive partnerships between students and teachers mean expectations have been exceeded.
We often say at BGS that education only happens once and every moment should be seized. This brilliant generation of students have absolutely taken that message to heart. While we are really very sad to see them leave, we have no doubt at all they will go out and do great things in the world.
I wish them all the best for their futures and look forward to catching up with them when they come back to visit. Their BGS experience doesn't end here!
