BGS Sixth Form Ranked Top in North Manchester

We are delighted to share more good news, with our Sixth Form confirmed as the top ranked Sixth Form in North Manchester.

Sixth Form News

This recognition builds on our recent success in the Times League Tables 2026, where Bury Grammar School was placed within the top 5% of secondary schools in the country and the highest-ranking school in North Manchester. Together, these achievements highlight the strength, consistency, and ambition of a BGS education at every stage, from age 3 to 18.

Our Sixth Form is renowned for its exceptional academic outcomes, expert teaching and strong culture of support and aspiration. Students benefit from a broad and challenging curriculum, small class sizes, personalised guidance, and extensive opportunities for leadership, enrichment and preparation for higher education and future careers.

Year after year, BGS Sixth Form students progress to leading universities and competitive courses, both in the UK and internationally. This latest ranking reflects not only examination success, but the confidence, independence and intellectual curiosity our students develop during their time with us. In recent EPQ results, an impressive 94% of projects achieved the highest A*/A grade.

Close links with Lancaster University, and the hard work of our Sixth Form team in forging strong relationships means that BGS Sixth Form is also one of fewer than twenty schools across the UK which form part of the Lancaster Link project.  This recent recognition reflects the strength of the School’s academic provision, our commitment to widening opportunities, and our shared ambition with Lancaster University to support students in reaching their full potential.

This is potentially life‑changing news for BGS students once they reach Sixth Form!

Commenting on the achievement, Principal, Mrs Jo Anderson said:

“This recognition reflects both the exceptional outcomes our students achieve and the strength of the teaching staff and pastoral care that underpins their success. With consistently high examination results, strong value-added performance and outstanding progression to leading universities and courses, our Sixth Form combines the highest academic standards with individual care, guidance and ambition. Alongside this, a strong and varied programme of enrichment, leadership and super-curricular opportunities enables students to develop confidence, independence and resilience, preparing them exceptionally well for life beyond school.”

The Head of Sixth Form added:

“We’re very proud to be the top Sixth Form in North Manchester! Our Sixth Form is a place where students are known as individuals and encouraged to aim high. This recognition reflects the daily commitment we see from our students - their work ethic, their willingness to take on responsibility, and the way they support one another as a community. From academic mentoring to leadership roles, enrichment activities and next steps / university preparation, we focus on helping every student find their strengths and leave us ready to succeed in their chosen path.”

We are so proud of this recognition and grateful to our whole school community for their continued commitment to our brilliant school!
