Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

Bury Grammar School’s 2024 production of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory was certainly a sweet treat, transporting audiences to a world of pure imagination!

Each year our talented Senior and Sixth Form pupils bring incredible talent to the Bury Grammar School Stage, and this year was no exception. For those who had a Golden Ticket, the show was packed with thrilling dance numbers, stunning characterisation, and deliciously entertaining musical performances.

This year, pupils as young as Year 8 took on principal roles, demonstrating incredible professionalism as they mastered intricate dialogue, choreography, and lyrics. Wonka’s mischievous charm was brought to life by Scarlett (Year 12) and Abby (Year 13), leading an eclectic cast of characters from talented pupils from Year 7 upwards, supported by an ensemble of over 90 Oompa Loompas!

The musical followed the well-loved tale of Charlie Bucket and four other Golden Ticket winners as they embarked on a magical adventure through Willy Wonka’s world-famous Chocolate Factory. Along the way, audiences were enchanted by chocolate waterfalls, nutty squirrels, a glass elevator, and, of course, the whole host of curious Oompa Loompas.

As ever, productions of this magnitude would not be possible without the hard work of the dedicated production team and those working behind the scenes helping with costumes, make-up and props. Thank you to the teachers who worked tirelessly sourcing sets, costumes, producing and supporting our pupils through weeks of rehearsals. This year pupils even ran their own costume club, where our fantastic pupils in Years 10 to 12 helped to make costumes and many squirrel tails!
