Bury Grammar School Year 11 pupils are celebrating the School’s strongest ever GCSE grades since the 9-1 reforms. They have gained the highest number of grades 9 to 7 (A** to A) in the School’s history and the best ever set of individual results.
Many congratulations from all of us at BGS!
⭐Over a third of all grades are 9-8 (A**-A*)
⭐Over half of all grades are 9-7 (A**-A)
⭐13 pupils have all 9-8s (A**-A*)
⭐31 pupils have all 9-7s (A**-A)
⭐83 pupils, more than half the year group, have more grades at 9-7 (A**-A) than any other grade.
How does this compare?
Results up at every level on last year
Since the 9-1 grade reforms:
The highest proportion and number of grade 9s (A**) outside of the Covid era
The highest proportion and number of grades 9-8 (A**-A*) outside of the Covid era
The highest number of grades 9-7 (A**-A) ever.
Actual GCSE grades achieved by our pupils are higher in every single GCSE subject and at every grade level than ‘predicted’ grades based on tests of ‘innate’ ability had suggested, making this BGS’s best ever set of individual performances.
Our Year 11 pupils who joined Bury Grammar Seniors during Covid have exceeded all expectations and broken all records. This doesn’t happen without excellent teaching, great pastoral care and a vibrant school environment, all of which stem from an exceptionally talented and hard-working group of teachers and support staff. Many thanks and congratulations to them as well!
Our pupils’ hard work, resilience, high aspirations and team work have paid off, with many now securing a place at our Sixth Form.
At Bury Grammar School, we believe that education is about more than just exam results - it's about enjoying an all-round, upbeat learning experience and shaping confident, capable young people ready to take on the world.
As we reflect on the GCSE Results our Class of 2025 have achieved, we are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our pupils and the unwavering dedication of our staff and community.

Enrichment at BGS
At BGS, education goes far beyond the curriculum. This year, pupils have taken part in a wide range of enrichment activities—from music and drama productions to sports tournaments, STEM challenges, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, charity fundraising, and international trips. These opportunities develop confidence, creativity, and leadership, helping our pupils grow as individuals and, in many instances, perform on a national stage.
Message from Principal, Mrs Anderson
“We are so proud of our Year 11s – their GCSE results are out of this world!! To have joined Senior School during Covid, made the incredible progress they have made and to have achieved the School’s strongest ever grades at the very top level is quite remarkable. Behind all those figures are many phenomenal individual stories of hard work, challenges overcome, teachers who have gone above and beyond and immense progress made. It is quite astounding that in every single GCSE subject and at every grade level, our pupils have achieved stronger results than expected. I am over the moon for our pupils, parents and staff and offer everyone who has played a part in these academic and personal successes my warmest congratulations. The Senior School years of 2020-25 have been quite some journey and the best bit is yet to come."
Reflection from Deputy Principal, Mrs Leaver
"We never open the GCSE results at BGS and are disappointed and the Class of 2025 are no exception! The overall results are tremendous and just a headline encapsulating so many individual stories of hard work, determination and ambition. I know our Year 11 pupils and their families have had a very nerve wracking few days waiting for their results but they should take this opportunity to celebrate - we are incredibly proud of them. We never take results like these for granted and the dedication and expertise of our teachers, combined with parental support and pupil ambition have once again placed BGS as a leading school with a seriously talented community!"
The Heads of Year 11 collectively said,
“Congratulations to all our Year 11 pupils on these fantastic GCSE results. Your hard work, dedication, and resilience throughout your studies have truly paid off. We are incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved - not just in your exams, but in the way you’ve grown as individuals and the incredible contributions you have made to Bury Grammar School. Whatever your next steps may be, take pride in knowing that you gave it your all. Well done and we can't wait to see you in the Sixth Form!”
