Spectacular Handel's Messiah Performance

A Night of Triumph and Talent in Spectacular Handel's Messiah Performance.

The Joint Choir proudly took to the stage last night, in the Roger Kay Hall to perform movements from Handel's Messiah, joined by musicians from the local community, Old Boys, Old Girls, parents, current pupils and students, staff and friends of Bury Grammar School, in what was a wonderful community performance.

We enjoyed some of the great choruses from this marvellous work and were delighted that Jenny Lucking (Friend of BGS) and Jay Broadhurst (Old Boy) returned to sing some of the solo arias.

Handel Messiah

Under the guidance of our dedicated Music teachers and with months of rehearsals our pupils delivered powerful performances.

Mrs Anderson, Principal said,

“The success of this performance was a testament not only to the talent of the individual performers but also to the collaborative effort of the entire school community. Teachers, pupils, and support staff worked behind the scenes to ensure that every aspect of the production was impressive, from staging to sound. We thank all our pupils and member of our community for delivering such a wonderful concert, our dedicated and talented teachers, and our visitors for joining us for this special occasion in school.”

Miss Britton, our Director of Music told us,

“Evenings such as this one are wonderful experiences for our pupils and students. As they know, it’s not just about hitting the right notes, it's about connecting with the music on a deeper level and conveying its emotion to the audience. Tonight, our performers did just that, with grace and passion, congratulations to them!”

Helena, Year 13 student, who impressively has just been awarded a Choral scholarship at Cambridge (congratulations!), sang a stunning solo last night. She reflected on the evening and said,

“One of my fondest memories of the BGS Choir is singing the Messiah when I first joined the Choir in Year 8. Now I am in Year 13, performing this work in my last choir concert feels like the perfect full circle moment. I am so grateful for all the support and opportunities the Music department have given me during my time at BGS and look forward to singing more in the future!”

Thank you for a wonderful evening!
