BGS Star Baker

We are delighted to announce that BGS pupil Aleena will be starring in the upcoming series of Junior Bake Off on Channel 4.
Year 11 pupil Aleena has always enjoyed baking, and was delighted to be shortlisted for the show, which was filmed in the famous Bake Off tent in Kent in the Summer. Forty of the country’s best junior bakers, aged 9 – 15 will be seen entering the Bake Off tent next week, where their cake-making, biscuit baking, bread and pastry making skills will be tested to the limit. In each of the ten heats, the junior bakers face two challenges - the Technical Bake and the Showstopper - with only four making it through to the grand final.

‘It was an amazing experience, it was great to bond with other people who have the same hobby and I made some great friends. Baking has always been a genuine passion of mine and I want to pursue it further.’

Aleena even managed to bring a bit of BGS to the tent as in week one the bakers were tasked with creating a cake based around their favourite subject at school. ‘I chose to make a Biology themed cake as it is the subject I enjoy the most. I’m planning to take Biology A Level and who knows I may even link in my love for baking as I am thinking of a career in nutrition in the future.’

Aleena’s Mum, Zaira added ‘Although the Junior Bake off is a competition, it never felt like that. All of the bakers and their families form such a close bond, we were all rooting for each other’s children. I was genuinely sad every time a junior baker got eliminated. As a parent I was so proud of Aleena: the confidence she had in front of the camera and in speaking to the production team was incredible.’

Mrs Davitt has fond memories from Aleena in her Food and Nutrition lessons. ‘Aleena has always been extremely enthusiastic in her Food & Nutrition lessons. I am thrilled that she has achieved a place on Junior Bake-off and wish her every success. I will be watching with great excitement to see the outcome!’

Junior Bake Off airs at 5pm daily from Monday 4th November. We at Bury Grammar School are very proud of Aleena for appearing on the show and wish her the best of luck in the competition.
