Our Estate

Our Estate
Bury Grammar School dates back to 1570 but the current campus was established in 1903 and is located in a leafy, 45-acre estate in Bury, Lancashire.
Although much of our Girls' Senior School dates back to 1903, we have added to the estate in almost every decade since, ensuring that the School provides a sense of grandeur and tradition along with leading-edge architecture and facilities to all our pupils.  The estate allows the School to offer extensive sporting and enrichment activities to all our pupils and provides an ideal learning environment for all academic subjects.

You may like to tap into our 360-degree videos, photos, and virtual reality, from wherever you are! Our virtual tour will help you to see inside our school: Virtual Tour.

girls' senior school

The oldest part of this building dates back to 1903 and houses our magnificent Roger Kay Assembly Hall. The Edwardian building has been extensively added to and refurbished over the years and skilfully blends the old and new. It is home to our modern joint sixth form centre that was opened in 2014 as well as extensive general and specialised teaching facilities - science labs, IT suites, drama and music studios, arts centre, modern foreign language suites, an inside and outside sports complex and a magnificent central library to name but a few!

Senior Girls

A large, bright, well equipped building that houses general and specialised teaching facilities. Of particular note is the Learning Resource Centre that incorporates the School's library, as well as the impressive suite of modern and excellently equipped science labs (including the School's pets!), music rooms, specialist IT suites, magnificent art block and the the School’s dining halls. The newly upgraded sports facilities include extensive 3G pitches, sports hall, fitness studio plus a weights gym, cricket pitch and 20 acres of grass football and rugby pitches.

Sixth Form - The Courthouse

This splendid 1920s former magistrate’s court building was converted into The Courthouse, our academic centre for Sixth Form in 2022. This traditional, quirky building provides excellent teaching facilities including our very first Sixth Form Hall, Careers and Higher Education Library and The Sixth Form Arts Centre. Sixth Formers continue to enjoy the Sixth Form Centre on Bridge Road as their social and study base. This along with The Courthouse, gives our most senior students access to unprecedented facilities.

Primary Division

Our modern purpose-built Primary Division was developed in 2022 to house our new co-educational Primary Division, providing excellent teaching facilities for our younger pupils with outstanding new facilities - including a new entrance, reception, library and outdoor play areas. The building includes bright, airy classrooms, age related music, science and art facilities and a new library. Primary pupils also use the wide variety of sporting facilities around the campus such as the football and hockey pitches, netball courts, swimming pool, sports hall and gym as well as extra-curricular facilities including our Forest School and School Garden.
Primary Divisions

The modern, light and airy Kindergarten and Primary Buildings, set within a gated part of our estate, offer an atmosphere of security and space for our youngest pupils. The buildings contain large bright classrooms and a magnificent octagonal Primary Division Hall which is used for assemblies, drama shows and performances. Our youngest pupils benefit from specialist, age related facilities including an infant gym, music rooms, library, and a well-equipped outside play area just for them!  In addition the pupils have access to all the facilities that the School has to offer including the School swimming pool, Forest school and outside sports facilities.
