Bury Grammar Schools
Bury Grammar Schools has a long and rich history of excellence dating back to the 1570s.
We are proud of being both a traditional and forward-looking family of Schools which celebrates successes, nurtures individual talents and places our pupils at the heart of everything we do. The highest standards in academic provision, enrichment activities and pastoral care are the norm. A BGS education gives our pupils the edge and enables them to shine.
The BGS journey begins in our coeducational Kindergarten from three years of age and continues into our coeducational Infant school. Between the ages of 7 and 16, pupils progress into our single sex Junior and Senior Schools and the educational journey culminates in our high-performing Sixth Form, which offers a unique experience: coeducational teaching alongside single sex pastoral care and form groups. You can find out more about each of our Schools by clicking ‘Our Family of Schools’.
There are many benefits of our structure: all pupils belong to a relatively small school where they are well known and able to flourish, while also being a part of the whole BGS family of Schools which together offers an enormous range of opportunities and gives pupils access to more than 100 highly qualified teachers. This is one of the keys to Bury Grammar pupils’ consistent success. The partnerships between each area of the school means that, as pupils move up the year groups, they can be sure that they will be benefitting from the same aspirational educational philosophy throughout their years at BGS: we are therefore confident they can ‘hit the ground running’ at each crucial transitional point.
Our vibrant and rigorous curriculum - both inside and outside the classroom - is designed to engage and challenge our pupils whilst fostering intellectual curiosity and a love of learning. This approach translates into impressive academic performances and means that our pupils leave BGS well-prepared for successful and happy lives beyond school. This is evidenced by our recent excellent ISI Inspection Reports of 2014 and 2016.
