Careers Department

The BGS careers department is in the privileged position to advise and guide our talented pupils who inevitably excel not just academically but also in areas such as Drama, Music and Sport.
The broad range of skills and talents that we have encountered in our pupils over the years have given us experience in a wide range of career routes, higher education courses and vocational options. From the traditional routes into professions such as Law, Medicine and Engineering to more unique options such as Zoo Conservation, Fashion Design or the most prestigious Conservatoires, there really is not a lot that we haven’t encountered before!
We encourage our pupils to explore careers options from an early age and work hard to link them to contacts or alumni who are already working in the areas that they are interested in. We work closely with the academic and pastoral teams to support and guide pupils in achieving their career aspirations.
Where to find us
The Careers Department is housed in a new and modern careers hub in our state of the art Sixth Form Centre. It is home to our Head of Careers and the Competitive Courses Coordinator, both of whom have extensive experience in preparing our pupils for life beyond BGS.
Boys and Girls of any age are encouraged to drop in to discuss their plans or are welcome to make a formal appointment with any member of the team. Both libraries are also well stocked with up to date publications and resources.
BGS pupils have a wealth of opportunities to discover a wide range of careers. There is our biennial Careers and Higher Education Convention, which is well supported by nationwide and overseas universities, as well as large and small companies and individuals.
A successful community
One of the distinct advantages of the Careers Department at BGS is the access that we have to such a diverse and successful network of former pupils. There are frequent speakers in school giving career related talks and we look forward to welcoming back ex-pupils to share their experiences with current students.
BGS pupils make an impact everywhere, in every continent and in every profession. The assurance, tenacity and warmth of BGS pupils impresses employers and admissions officers in equal measure.
Whether they are eminent medics, leading journalists, international sports stars, award winning actors, renowned academics or dedicated public servants, it is fair to say that BGS has proudly played a part in the success of so many ex-students who are making a difference to our society.

The Careers Department aims to enable students to develop the skills and contacts required to realise their ambitions. We are excited to play a key role in bidding farewell to our students at the end of their BGS journey but are equally fortunate to welcome them back to celebrate and learn from their successes in the future.
